Take your rug outdoors and gently shake it to remove dust and loose debris. For larger pieces, ask for assistance to avoid strain. Using a quality rug pad underneath helps protect the fibers from ground-in dirt and extends the rug’s lifespan.
Gentle Vacuuming
If outdoor shaking isn’t practical, vacuum using a suction-only attachment once or twice a month. Avoid rotary or brush vacuums, as they may damage the wool fibers. For a deeper clean, occasionally flip the rug and vacuum the underside.
Natural Sun Renewal
Once a year, hang your rug in direct sunlight for a few hours, turning it halfway through. Sunlight naturally refreshes, deodorizes, and revitalizes the wool fibers.
Professional Hand-Washing
Every 3–5 years, have your rug professionally hand-washed by an experienced Moroccan rug specialist. Avoid steam cleaning or dry cleaning, as these methods can weaken natural fibers. Proper hand-washing uses pH-balanced solutions, gentle brushing, and thorough rinsing to maintain the rug’s integrity.
